Bright Future

Growing up, along with my family, we’d listen to “A visit with the Joneses” on WAVL (now WXJX 910 am) in Apollo , PA. Rev. Bert Jones always ended his program with this encouragement, “The future is just as bright as the promises of God.”

Noticing how much that phrase meant, his wife Ruth, troubled by the current events of that era, wrote this song in 1943:

In times like these, you need a Savior, in times like these, you need an anchor; be very sure, be very sure, your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock!

CHORUS:

The Rock is Jesus, Yes, He’s the One. The Rock is Jesus, the only One. Be very sure, be very sure, your anchor holds, and grips the Solid Rock.

In times like these, you need the Bible, in times like these, O be not idle! Be very sure, be very sure, your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock. (Chorus)

In times like these, I have a Savior, in times like these, I have an anchor. I’m very sure, I’m very sure, my anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock. (Chorus)

You may have heard George Beverly Shea sing this song at Billy Graham crusades.

Now if Ruth was troubled by current events then, what would she think 81 years later?

Looking at things through temporal eyes can certainly be depressing. We could even give up hope. But what never changes is “our anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock”

What I hear the Lord saying to me is, whoever wins the election in November will not effect my eternal future. Inflation and the stock market will not determine where I go when I die. And cancer or any other health issue isn’t going to keep me out of heaven. In fact because of our faith in Jesus Christ, the future IS as bright as the promises of God. Trust Him and  be very sure that your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock!
