Redeemed
I’ve been thinking recently how important it is for us to firmly establish our position in Christ if we are His genuine followers. This hymn has repeatedly been top of mind a lot lately:
“Redeemed, how I love to proclaim it, redeemed by the blood of the Lamb; redeemed by His infinite mercy, His child, and forever, I am.
I think of my blessed Redeemer, I think of Him all the day long; I sing for I cannot be silent; His love is the theme of my song.
Redeemed, redeemed; redeemed by the blood of the Lamb; redeemed, redeemed, His child and forever I am.”
Sometimes we question our worthiness. The words of the aforementioned hymn can be just words, OR they can be affirmations of our relationship with Jesus.
Consider this definition of what it means to be redeemed:
“The work of Christ on our behalf, whereby He purchases us, He ransoms us, at the price of His own life securing our deliverance from the bondage and condemnation of sin.”
Sin separated us from what God intended for us. Adam started it in Eden, but each of us on our own, before we became Christ-followers, were separated from God’s intended relationship with us. Because of our actions, God said, “I want you back, so I will pay the ransom; I will redeem you. I will pay the cost with My Son’s life.”
You and I mean that much to Him. It is impossible to redeem ourselves. But HE DID IT! He redeemed us. That’s what has secured our POSITION in Christ. So when I think of MY blessed Redeemer, I sing, for I CANNOT BE SILENT, His love is the theme of my song!
If you are following Christ, you can sing, too!
Amen. To be loved so much is beyond my comprehension.
